May 13, 20206 yr #1 Hi, this is the grouping I just bought. James N Batton 14046508 Hq&Hq Co 509th PIB He took part in Operation SHINGLE, he was wounded in the south of France on 17 August. He took part in the Battle of the Bulge without being wounded. When the 509th was disbanded, he was transferred to the 504th PIR, I don't know when he was transferred to the 17th Airborne. May 13, 20206 yr #2 Nice grouping, though we would really rather see more detail than the 50,000 foot shot. We appreciate you sharing it with us. Your veteran was most likely one of the high point men at the end of the war and as such would have had priority to return to the states. Since the 17th Airborne Division was rotating back to the states before the 82nd and 101st, many of the high point troopers were transferred over so that they could go home. That is most likely why he is wearing the 17th A/B SSI in the photo. I hope we get to see more detail of this historic group. Allan
