I started buying and selling collectibles around 1990 but eventually, I decided to keep the better badges. Like we all say, "I wish I wouldn't have sold that one." Here are some pieces of my current collection.

 

The first badge is an N.S.A. breast and hat badge. I found this set at an estate sale approximately 20 years ago. I have been unable to get any information on this set. I know the NSA started in 1952. The set looks to be from around that period. Was this National Security Agency or something else? Any help would be appreciated.

I found these two Blackinton badges this year about 2 months apart. I rarely see them turn up still in their package. I believe the USN Fire Marshal badge is a pinch older. There is no Website shown on this Blackinton package.

Here are two more badges for show. These Department of Defense badges seem to be pretty common. I guess it depends on how they're stamped. I have one from Norfolk Naval Base and a blank one, possibly never issued. I'll show more soon. Thanks.

 

 

Concerning the first badge shown: If you remove the clutch fastener at the top of the badge and look on the inside of the fastener, that can give you an idea of when this badge may have been produced/used. If the fastener was replaced or added later, then of course it wouldn't help. But being from an estate, it could be the original fastener.

Concerning the DOD Police Badge: It says LI-GI on the back (Lordship Industries), so it is 1970's or newer.

Reforger, if you're referring to the clutch back, those are interchangable. Not the best way to date a badge. The clutch back is marked: BALLOU REG'D

Yeah, they are interchangeable. But you said the badges are from an estate, so there is a chance the clutch fastener is correct. I've come across some insignia from estates and they still had the original/period fasteners with them. So it can help with dating. A Ballou Reg'd fastener would place the badge after 1955 assuming it came with that fastener.

Thanks again Reforger. The estate belonged to a navy pilot. The badges may have belonged to his father/father-in-law. I remember buying desk models and other pilot related items all from the 1960s. This was almost 20 years ago and the badges are the only remaining items I purchased from his estate. Naval Support Activities makes more sense than the National Security Agency.

I was hoping others would show some of their badges too. Here's one of my MAA badges. It doesn't give a location for the Dental Clinic but it may have come from Norfolk, VA.

Here's one from the Norfolk Naval Ship Yard. It came from the estate of a man who worked at this shipyard and retired as the police captain. I'm guessing family kept his captains badge.

Here's one more from Fort Lee Civil Defense Auxiliary Fire Department. I'm not certain of the age. Perhaps 1950s.

 

 

Here is an MAA from the USS LAMOURE COUNTY LST 1194. Used for landing tanks. The ship was used from 1971 - 2000.

Great looking badge

Here's a named Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Miami Crash Crewman badge. I would have rather seen an EGA in the center but I believe this to be a scarce badge. I have found mixed dates as to when the name Naval Air Station Miami was changed to MCAS. I have seen 1952, 1954 and 1955. It was ended in 1959. I don't know if the man's name on the badge was a US Marine or a civlian employee.

I'm assuming the MCB CLNC is for Marine Corps Base Clinic. Cool badge.

Haven't added anything in months.  Got this badge today.  I found one that sold and seller claims with a handwritten note that these badges were issued to the Norfolk Navy Base PD who were guarding Russian naval ships on a visit.  Whether true or not, it's still a nice badge.  The two I did find that sold were unnumbered.

Here are two of mine.

 

Clarksville Base was a Cold War Nuclear storage site that was established on FT Campbell in 1948 and operated until 1969.  At its height, it is believed to have held about 1/3 of the US Nuclear weapon stockpile.

 

The Air Force controlled the base until 1952, when it was turned over to the US Navy with a contingent of USMC guards.

 

The Chief's badge and Assistant Chief hat badge came together.  Unfortunately, there was no name associated with the two.

Thanks for the new posts.  I haven't back in a while but I found this wonderful badge today.  Los Alamitos CA. From what I read they trained pilots there staring in 1942.  The pin catch is WWII period (my opinion).   The badge measures 2 inches tall and 1 3/4 inches wide.  Made by L.A. Stamp & Stationary Company.  One of my new favorites.
