January 5, 200917 yr #1 I recently found this footlocker from another reenact or for $15 The interesting is the inscription the officer penciled inside the lid. It really hits home as here is a guy waiting for the invasion to start and is closing his footlocker not knowing what lies ahead on the cost of France or if he will open it up again. officers name and info messge says"This closed May 10th 1944 at St. Ives There re 2 LST's and several LCT's in St. Ives bay tonight. God Bless You" Can anyone help with unit or personal information? I did the online National arcive search and found nothing. Anyother searchs or sites? What units were there and can anyone ID the unit loading marks? Thank You in advnce TK

January 5, 200917 yr #5 Can anyone tell me what the numbers on the lid are? We have my father-in-law's footlocker with similar numbers that I mistook for a serial number. They must refer to something else which would explain why our NARA request for information came back empty. His name was John C. Burns from Lowell Mass. All we know is that he was an Army Capt. in the Coastal Artillery Corps serving in Hawaii for the duration of the war. He died in 1984.
January 6, 200917 yr #6 The strips of 2 orange and 1 green is the DI or crest for the 4th Infantry Regiment. The 4th was in the Pacific. His D-day would have been a landing on the Phillipines I think. Should be easy to research now that you know the unit.

January 12, 200917 yr #8 Yep...St.Ives is a port in Cornwall, England, and just round the coast from the 29th Inf. Div. marshalling area in the Falmouth area for D-Day........... Does the 29th connection make any sense ? In the final days leading up to D-Day, all the participating troops went into lockdown in their camps, and non-travelling items were stored, to follwo the owner once the Allies got established. I nice item, what ever !
