Anyone happen to see this one on EBay? Does that set a record for an ashtray I wonder?

A 4.5 POUND ashtray? That must have been a one-off piece that was made for something special. Pretty cool. $607 cool? Not for me...but for others, perhaps...

Maybe it was sterling silver to weigh that much.

In the description it says it is 7.5" wide and 1.5" high.

yes.. must be sterling silver .. it is worth $922 meltdown value.

Hopefully, melting it down is not why someone purchased it. That would be an awful shame. :(

#7

How do you know it's sterling?

#8

I think it is sterling too by the patina. Presentation piece to the Commander. Probably will be scrapped.

I deal in plate and sterling and no sterling buyer went out on a limb for this.

Unless it's marked or tested, the description says so and guarantees it.

It looks stainless steel or chrome plated.

Interesting... do someone over paid then.

Or two people who collect items from the Swordfish wanted it.

That's the way it goes in auctions. You may pay more then it really is worth. It looks to be chrome plated or stainless steel as there is no indication it's sliver. Never know just how bad someone wants it or will pay for an item. Some guys just have very 'deep' pockets and maybe this was no big deal for him. Who knows.
