Im starting a thread to document Military Contract Batteries. The military has used batteries even pre-WW I, but since they basically self-destruct at some point, if we document them in photos, at least we know what they looked like. Ill start with the common D cell; the military calls it the BA 30. I think these are from a contract from 1977. This is the size used in the famous angle head flashlight. I have seen WW II examples, but dont have any.

Here are some newer D cells, made in 2000. If you didnt have the box, you wouldnt be able to tell these were purchased by the military. I put a couple in one of my angle head flashlights and they still worked! 19 years after they were made, and 16 years after their expiration date. One of them had started leaking in the box so I threw away that battery and cut away part of the box.

Here are some from the WWII. I have some additional batteries from the later 40's maybe korean war as well as some Vietnam.. have to see if I can find them. I also have a WW1 battery but I cannot get it out of the flashlight now. I had it out before but it will not budge now.

The BA-208/U was used with several different pieces of test equipment.

The OD came in a BC-611 the other one (BURGESS) came in a SCR-625 mine detector.
