I don't know if this is where Im suppose to post this, but this is a picture of my grandfather when he was in the Army.He served during Vietnam.Anyway I want to know what the patches and ribbons on his uniform mean.He died before I was born and my dad doesn't know much about his military service so I don't a whole lot about him.I'd appreciate it if someone could tell me.

Well, at first glance, he’s wearing Specialist 5 (E-5) rank, and an Expert Weapon Qualification medal.

 

Somebody will know what his shoulder sleeve insignia (aka, “unit patch”) is.

 

Sadly, whomever colorized this photo got the values way off, which makes the ribbons tricky.

 

I’m sure we can collectively work it out though.

As mentioned by Blacksmith the ribbons are way way off, regrettably the whole colorized job is way off, but if I had to guess I would say he has Vietnam Service Ribbons.

 

So lets see, top ribbon a Good Conduct Medal, bottom, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service, and the Vietnam Campaign w/ bar.

Yes, unfortunately the quality of the colorization job is most cartoon-ish, I'd venture to say it was done in theater, in South Korea

Forgot to mention he's got a citation of some sorts there on his right side, could be either a Presidential Unit Citation, a Valorous Unit Citation, or a Meritorious Unit Commendation, the award of which could be for his current unit (WWII or Korean War) or for his unit he was in in Vietnam.

Here's the ribbons as a best guess, with the assumption there are two campaign stars on the Vietnam Service ribbon.
