I know they're not any kind of reverse lend-lease, but the thought struck me as funny that I think a soldier most likely acquired these in Britain and modified them for US use! I forget where these came from, honestly. Either with a WWI or WWII mess kit that I got years ago, or I may have picked them up at an army surplus store along with some standard US-made examples. Regardless, they have clearly been punched to string on the handle of a US-mess kit for cleaning. I have a few bits of US cutlery in my silverware drawer, and I can totally understand why someone might prefer a smaller, more comfortable set! I googled the stampp that is visible, and it is a British company. The hole obscures the other.

Backs. You can see some tooling marks, and the fellow had access to a decent belt-sander or grinder to smooth the burrs from the cutout.
