Saw this flight helmet, looks to be stamped USN. Color appears to be dark gray?

 

What era is this from? Is it authentic?

Reminds me of the black helmets they wore under the gunner/talker helmets from WW2

Yep.Doyler is right.It's called a blast helmet worn under talker helmets.They all seem to be in great shape as most sailors hated wearing them,especially in the PTO.Often mistaken for a flight helmet.
