October 5, 200817 yr #1 Found this USMC 3rd RECON plaque several years ago at a gunshow.Sadly the name plate is gone as you can see a residue of glue where it was mounted on the lower part of the plaque.Appears to be hand carved and painted.I gave $10 and its a favorite of mine even though the name plate is missing.I figure it to be Viet Nam era and would appreciate any comments. RON
October 5, 200817 yr #2 Could be Vietnam or up until the 80's. Te plaque is Philippine made. I can remember shopping the areas around Subic and the shopswere packed with these type plaques. Esp. the patch / plaque shop across from the SERE school.

October 6, 200817 yr #8 About 25 years ago (geez, can I really say that? I am getting old) I drove Hwy 5 along the California Pacific Coast. Just south of Camp Pendleton I pulled into the then small town of Oceanside. As I recall, it did not have many streets, and it was real easy to locate a military shop not far from the ocean. These guys had every possible USMC patch and collectible you could imagine, and I am sure it included Recon items. This included all those "Port of Call" tabs that Marines used to stack on the sleeves of their tour jackets. It was all of current manufacture of course, but it was a sight to behold. A lot of red and gold! They also had racks of both new and used uniforms, ranging from ERDL to BDU. I've often wondered if it was still there.
