Silent Destiny - My commissioned piece of art

I'm pleased to announce Silent Destiny has been completed. I commissioned talented artist Derek Blois to recreate the final moments of Horsa Glider LJ135 from the 437th Troop Carrier Group which crash landed in a field close to the hamlet of Holdy near St. Marie du Mont. Some of you might know that this is the glider crash which I erected memorial markers for out in Normandy last year.

Prints will be available if anybody is interested. There will be a limited amount with pencil sketch remarques and a larger number of standard prints. All prints will be signed by the artist. I don't have any costings yet but would like to know how many would be interested. Please send me a message if you'd like to discuss.

The wording on the print is as follows:-

0700 June 7th 1944 - Glider Pilots F/O Richard Mercer and 1st Lt George Parker from the 86th Troop Carrier Squadron, 437th Troop Carrier Group struggle to keep control of their Horsa Glider serial number LJ135 after losing its wing whilst attempting to land near St. Marie du Mont, Normandy. They had the honour of being in glider position 1 in Serial No. 34 of Mission Galveston where the 437th Troop Carrier Group was tasked with flying in glider infantrymen, jeeps and equipment from 1st Battalion, 325th Glider Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division and engineers from A Company, 307th Airborne Engineer Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division. The catastrophic crash landing resulted in the total destruction of the Horsa glider killing F/O Richard Mercer and 14 men from Company A, 325th Glider Infantry Regiment.

Regards,

Neil.
