I picked this up last year. Hoping you all could shed some light on the liner. Has it been added to the shell, is the paint original on the liner?

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

tball, that's a nice set you've got there. In my opinion, the answers to your questions are:

1. Liners were painted only in OD green, so someone at some time made into a medic helmet. We'll never know when.

2. I think it has likely been added to the shell. I don't see any evidence that they've been together for a long time.

But again, those are two nice helmets you have, and the Navy D-Day shell is a one-looker.

Yup 100% agree with bill. I dont think those are a matching set but they are both one lookers to me.

Being the liner is a later model and shows relatively little use, I'm willing to bet that not only is the liner not matching to the helmet, but also it may very well be very late if not post war painted, and likely used state side.

Yessir, that shell is a beauty! I'd say the liner is a corpmans liner perhaps assigned to a ship, I had a steel shell painted white with red crosses and it was a hospital ship medics helmet.

I am of the opinion that the liner is a shipboard corpsman's helmet.

 

It would be interesting to know how the 2 came together.

Not a matched set but, I agree with the assessment that the medical liner is likely from a hospital ship and the helmet is a killer D-Day marked lid. How they came together: ?????????????????

Thank you for all the help, guys! Could anyone help me with an approximate value with this helmet? I haven't found many to compare it with. I am moving to primarily collecting USAAF gear and I am thinking of putting this lid up for sale.
