Recent purchase and addition to the Navy side of the collection.

 

A nicely modified blade marked Kabar where the owner replaced the handle with clear spacers and cast aluminum pommel.Appears the tang was painted red prior to intalling the clear spacers.The owner then inlaid letters and designs of metal into the grip.Some set of letters appears to be his name.There is also a nicely scribrd island scene and USN on the grip then high lighted in white paint.

Initials are haed to make out but may read B H BRATT

Wondering if the name above the drawing of the palm could be Funafuti. One of my father's friends was a SeaBee on Funafuti Island in WW2.

Looks like a Seabee special... super nice theatre altered knife!!!

 

Could even be a sailor who stopped on the island and got bored, etc.

Seriously though I have wondered if the other inlay work was possibly done by an Islander as you will typically see some of the native made items/knives inlaid with bits of shell,brass,cocnut or other material.
