July 13, 201511 yr #26 A painted grouping from a Ranger Captain. The rig is an early Tactical Tailor black MAV that has been spray painted tan and brown. Holster is a painted Safariland for a Glock 23 (Yes.....Rangers did use these). The other items are communications equipment that have been spray painted as well.
August 7, 201510 yr Author #29 I found that painted UCP IFAK pouch. Has anyone seen painted UCP gear before?
August 8, 201510 yr #31 I found that painted UCP IFAK pouch. Has anyone seen painted UCP gear before? I saw a SAW pouch but it was just some over-spray.
August 25, 201510 yr #32 I have had these used ALICE packs in my personal collection for a long time, but just found them again when moving some items around in the "war room". They came out of Ft. Knox and are non-SF related (I think). The large ALICE pack has been modified with the addition of a Coleman Peak 1 external frame as opposed to the metal one issued by the military. Whomever made this modification knew exactly what they were doing. The frame is tight with the pack and it is comfortable to wear.
August 26, 201510 yr #33 Small ALICE pack is well used and is missing the frame. Both packs came from the same soldier.
September 3, 201510 yr #36 I have had these used ALICE packs in my personal collection for a long time, but just found them again when moving some items around in the "war room". They came out of Ft. Knox and are non-SF related (I think). Could still have been from the Special Operations community. I'm unaware of any permanent guys up there but I know they train there. I've seen river ops training down a few times there. Even saw SEALs training on Knox once. Here's one example discussed here: http://navyseals.com/nsw/behind-scenes-special-ops-gunboat-crew-0/ The large ALICE pack has been modified with the addition of a Coleman Peak 1 external frame as opposed to the metal one issued by the military. Whomever made this modification knew exactly what they were doing. The frame is tight with the pack and it is comfortable to wear. Small ALICE pack is well used and is missing the frame. Both packs came from the same soldier. The medium (not small) ALICE may not have had the frame used with it. It was designed to be worn with or without it. I always used a frame but my father never did while he was in.
September 6, 201510 yr #37 The medium (not small) ALICE may not have had the frame used with it. It was designed to be worn with or without it. I always used a frame but my father never did while he was in. Thanks for the information, Volunteer.
December 22, 201510 yr #38 Not exactly "gear" but still interesting to share I hope, as far as I can tell these started out "gold" and were painted black to subdue them, that chipped off and it was painted and chipped off again. I can see two layers. Very interesting, I don't think subdued ones would be too hard to come by?
March 13, 201610 yr #39 UCP 3 mag pouch from THUNDERTAC Painted a color close to coyote brown. Interesting to see the back painted, there's no point in doing it because it is hidden when attached to the gear. My guess is this pouch was painted sometime from 2010-2016 because 1. it's coyote brown, which was used on some commercial items before then but is the primary color of OIF/OEF Camo/ OCP/ multicam, and 2. there is no point in camoing 1 tiny mag pouch when your whole uniform and IOTV is UCP
