I finally got Grunt Gear and let me just say its AMAZING. There's a good amount of things in the book that I haven't seen and this is one of them. A prototype 1940 pack that was the predecessor to the M1941 pack system. Has anyone ever owned one of these or seen one in person? If so can anyone post pictures of them is this thread? Are there any photos of them being field tested? One thing that I thought was really interesting was that the knapsack was mounted to the haversack and the flap of the haversack goes over the knapsack.

Anyone have any other photos of these?

Better late than never! I know this is an old post but I just picked up a copy of the October 1940 issue of Leatherneck magazine. The article is only one page with a second page photo collage of the prototype pack.
