June 1, 201511 yr #1 It only took me 7 years but I want to announce to everyone here that I will be the Historian of the newly reopened United States Army Non Commissioned Officer Heritage and Education Center, formally known as the US Army NCO Museum. This is a Department of the Army GS (General Service) Position that I have been applying for since coming to the Sergeants Major Academy as a contractor back in 2008.The Museum is located at Fort Bliss Texas on Biggs Army Airbase or as we know it here as East Bliss. In order to preserve the History of the NCO from it's inception in the 1700's to present day and to educate NCO's on the history of the NCO Corps the name was changed from museum to a Heritage and Education Center. Back in December during Christmas break several of the Sergeant's Major students from Class 65 as well as their spouses and other volunteers helped to gut the building and rebuild display areas and repainted walls and other modern upgrades to include large TV monitors and a lecture area. The building where the artifacts are located has been completely remodeled and now has an area for induction ceremonies for NCO's, as well as displays of uniforms, equipment, weapons and other items used by NCOs throughout time. The rededication/reopening ceremony was held May 28, 2015. The Heritage and Education Center was the Legacy Gift from the Students of The United States Army Sergeant's Major Academy Class 65.I am scheduled to start in a few weeks and I will keep everyone posted as far as progress on upcoming projects and other plans we have to bring maximum exposure to the center. This is the only education center of it's kind in the US Army and our vision is for it to be used as a teaching tool for future NCO's as well as a repository for records and oral interviews of past NCOs who have impacted our United States Army Military History..I look forward to sharing this new chapter in my life/career with everyone..and I want to thank those who were "in the know" previously from the beginning for their Prayers.. I have been truly Blessed with this opportunity and finally I have my dream job. Knowledge sharing is such an important part of this hobby and we all can learn from others and I hope that I can continue to contribute to this and other forums as well as share my passion for military history with all.. Leigh
