This came out of an estate this weekend. The pilot flew PB4Y Privateers in WWII. Can anyone ID what planes it would have been used in? Is it possible to refill the liquid inside? Many thanks....Tom.

That looks like a Pioneer 1808 or Type B-15. The Type B-16 is more common; I don't know if it superseded the B-15 or if they were produced at the same time. There is a fill plug on the back. There is only one plug; the other external hardware are jam-nuts on screws. The one on the bottom is the pivot screw for the card so don't take it loose. When you fill it with kerosene, you will probably discover that it leaks. Replacing the cork gasket requires disassembly of the compass.
