This museum is an open air museum, situated at the Marine Costal Battery "Aachen" and "Saltzwedel Neu / Tirpitz", part of the Atlantikwall. This site is one of the best preserved remnants of the Atlantic Wall in Europe.

The majority of the preserved bunkers and trenches at the site date to the construction of the Atlantic Wall during the German occupation of Belgium during the Second World War. During the war, numerous fortifications were constructed on the site, including the well preserved Saltzwedel neu Battery to defend the nearby port of Oostende from allied invasion. Several of the fortifications have been renovated to the condition they were in during the war and include several displays of uniforms and equipment worn by the garrison.

HISTORY:
In 1944/45 there was an occupation of the Batterys by American and Canadian troops. Still visible today, as there are american weapons set for display and traces of reconstructions made by american troops. They removed german artillery and recreated the concrete fundaments for their own purposes, to set up their own artillery. I didnt understand it all, cause the tour was not guided, only with some kind of speaker system. Also, I could not find much info on the web about the detaild history of this place. If you have any info, feel free to post.
