If you collect patches with velcro on the backsides, you have experienced the "pain in the a**" they can create. They stick to everything and will fray other shoulder patches they come in contact with. Also, how the heck do you display them?

 

I tape all of my patches onto comic book backing boards and then place them in a sleeve. The velcro will not hold the tape to secure them to the boards. So this is what I do. (this will also work for theater made / fragile patches)

 

I take a photo sleeve sheet.

I cut around the edges of the three holders to produce one sleeve / pocket.

Slide the patch into this sleeve / pocket.

 

(You can see I am reusing some old sheets)

Fold over the back excess material of the plastic sleeve / pocket (you may need to trim this down so the fold does not overlap) and secure with a piece of tape.

The final result!

 

I will now tape it onto a comic book backing board.

Since the 1970's I have mounted patches to paper with drafting tape and put that in document protectors to make like a stamp album, many of them. To deal with the velcro backed patches I found strips of velcro with an adhesive back in the sewing stuff at Walgreen's while killing time waiting for a prescription. Just cut off about an inch, put it on the patche, peel the backing of and put it in it's place.

I've taken ordinary black felt and pressed it onto the velcro side. It's much cheaper than buying more velcro.
