Saw a B-57 ejection seat today at a local flea market. It was weathered. Still had the main strap that comes across the front an then to the top. Needed to be sand blasted and repainted. Seem to have all of the metal parts, no cushions or seat for the bucket. He was asking $425 for it. Not sure if that was a good deal or not considering it needed some restoration.

Hard to say without pics of it... But, that sounds like the ballpark for a weathered one which is pretty much stripped of all parts. It is what it is, most ejection seats will command that $300 and $400 minimum value just as a matter of course due to what they are.

 

I don't know if that seat was unique to that aircraft alone, if it was that will bump the value some to type collectors, but comparatively speaking that aircraft is also not nearly as popular as something like the F4, which hurts the value some as there will not be as much demand for it.

 

An additional downside is that if it was unique to that aircraft, sourcing replacement parts to restore it might be a long, hard, expensive search as there just will not be all that many parts out there to be had.

 

In addition, were some of them not UK made and some US made?

I believe there were two different types of seats used in the Martin B-57 Canberra. The first I believe was a Martin seat that

used a SA-20 seat automatic parachute assy. The later seat was the Douglas ESCAPAC seat that used a two piece fiberglass seat

survival kit with cushion for the bottom and a hard pack parachute container with risers for the back.
