What are these patches? and are they legit?

I don't normally collect Vietnam stuff but I ran across them.

Thanks,

Brian

The 8 "O BIEN" patch is 8th Marine Battalion, Republic of Vietnam. Worn by RVN forces and USMC advisors to RVN. I found one in the pocket of a USMC Advisor's tigerstripe uniform once. As far as being legit, I don't know for certain -- 'Nam patches are a minefield, for sure, so I'll leave that to the more advanced guys on this site.

well the seller refunded all my money.. and I keep the patches.

They will be marked well with "FAKE" on the back so no one in the future is fooled.

Brian the funeral patch is variation of the Strategic Technical Directorate Vietnamese Joint General Staff insignia. Its listed on page 529 of Ian Sutherland book on Special Forces. The Strategic Technical Directorate was the counterpart organization to MACV-SOG at the Genral Staff Level. If it was real it would have been worth 4-5 hundred dollars.Scotty
