April 15, 200818 yr #27 I totally agree that any item currently being used by our military should not be in possession of a non-military person who has no current need for it (i.e., NVGs, Armored Protection Devices, etc). I will make an exception for law enforcement. These item were intended for the protections of our troops. This is just not right in a place where we cannot tell combatants from non-combatants. I am sure that our Vietnam vets will know what I am talking about. People who are in possession of these items should be charged with theft of government property, and if they sell these items illegally, they should be charged with treason, espionage and whatever else we can try them for. As collectors, we should use common sense and not by these item (as much as we want them) until they are declared non-essential, surplus and no longer needed. I also think that our military should disable them for further use so that legal collectors will be able to purchase them and add to individual collections and not have to worry that they will wind up in the hands of our enemies. This is just my $.02 worth.
April 16, 200818 yr #28 another thing, i wouldnt assume that the only source for night vision systems and armor protection etc. is the US, or US surplus, while a small amout may make it over there, i bet theres countrys locally that supply that stuff, uniforms would be a big problem as someone stated about some insurgents getting on a base while dreesed up
April 16, 200818 yr #31 Generation 3? there are 3 generations of NVGs. Gen 1, which was the early, grainy view. Gen 2, much improved view. And Gen 3, with a very clear view that can be focused for clarity of objects close or far, so much that you can see the pixels of the cammies, and allows the advantage of seeing IR. It's the IR feature that takes the cake

It's the IR feature that takes the cake yeah that kind of stuff should not make it onto any market, so much effort goes into making your hi tech gear it a pitty they cant put more effort into keeping it out of the wrong hands, or is it just too hard? on a side note i was watching mythbusters the other day and was surprised at how easily they got past IR, with just a pane of glass, but dont confuse me with someone who knows what their talking about lol
