U.S.S Iowa M1 helmet with liner- Fake? or real?

Hi there!

Just went to an antique shop and when I was checking out I couldn't help but notice a M1 helmet that had USS Iowa in white paint. So I asked if it was for sale and to my luck it was. She took it out for me to hold and I was impressed. It had a dark blue kind of look, it had a rough texture and a what appears to be a WWII Liner that was in AMAZING condition and it was named twice. I was too stupid to not take a pic of the liner :(. Also on the back in white paint as well it says "61" (for BB-61?).

It appears to be WWII and the paint saw some of mother nature (rain, wind, etc.), and the liner is brown unlike the Vietnam ones that I've seen that are green. But the inside looks like a Vietnam era liner and it had 71 inside (the deepest part of the helmet).

Thoughts? I think its real...but it could be a really good fake. And what era is it? WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Cold War? They were asking $200.00.

(I know the picture is upside down, getting used to take pics on my new phone)

Found this on google images, best represents what the liner looks like. Not 100% but overall...looks like it.

Man I would love to have that liner if it's real. If the inside looks like the one on the left then yes that's WW2

Is $200.00 a good price? I'd like to get it, plus I'm going to see if the overseas caps under the helmet belonged to the sailor or marine.

If it's original I think that's a good price the Iowa served into the 90's so Vietnam liner is no red flag.

Although the Iowa had a long service record, I wish it were earlier in its career : /

You should get some better pictures and post in the helmet section. It's always a good idea to get more opinions before making a big purchase.

Just curious. Why is this posted in the "fake alerts" thread? Has it been determined that this is indeed a fake??
