March 17, 201313 yr #1 hi guys. sharing time,one of my navy helmets.the helmet has been painted a couple of times,green,red then gray. i have some questions ,what do the different colors stand for? how many colors were there? thanks
March 17, 201313 yr #12 Similiar to one I have and posted once.Mine was Korea era and the markings looked applied with a permanent marker(when photographed)but looking at it its actually brush applied paint

March 17, 201313 yr #17 One thing can be said about the Navy, they never had a helmet that needed only "one" coat of paint. They are the masters of repaint and reissue of a helmet.
March 18, 201313 yr #19 Hi, nice helmet. I think the red paint was used for repair & maintenance helmets. Which means that this helmet did not leave its place of duty for a while but was just repainted several times ! Please be noted that permanent (or not) market dates from the 50s or 60s. Max
