DId he change his last name and shorten it legally?  It looks like he scratched out the last part of his name.

Yes, it appears that he shortened his name in Sept1940 from Ranchynoski to Ranch.

He had quite a career, flying including Fighting Marine Sq One in Quantico and later an instructor in Pensacola.

In Feb 1942 shows sick leave and then a number of staff positions in the Pacific in the forward area till the end of the war.

He retired in 1957 as a LtCol, passed 1991, buried in Arlington.
