January 15, 201313 yr #1 I bought this ike jacket and it has a zipper front. Iv'e never seen one that has a zipper. anyone know anything about thses?
January 15, 201313 yr #2 It was a common tailor modification. I have had afew in my collection over the years.
January 15, 201313 yr #3 It's a relatively common modification designed to give the Ike a sleeker profile...no unsightly gaps opening up between the buttons!
January 15, 201313 yr #4 Agreed, it was a common modification. Some soldiers also had snaps added to further close the front, as well as having the pocket flaps sewn shut.
January 15, 201313 yr #6 Seeing its a 7th Army I would venture to say it was done in germany. As stated it was pretty common to have this done. You will also see the jacket with sewn down pocket flaps or the buttons removed to the flap and snaps installed. It was all bout appearance. The sewn down pockets gave a sharper /smoother look to the uniform.I think I still have one some place with the same tailor modifications.
January 18, 201313 yr #8 How do I tell? Look at the zipper pull.It may have the german maker name on it.
