I think its glue marks from being in a frame. The Bronze Star has it too.

Loren Brinkmeyer was from Kansas and his obituary lists him as having served in the 96th Infantry Division and the 6th Ranger Battalion in World War II..

This young Kansan was killed during the Normandy breakout and left behind a "war bride" of only a few months who was quickly remarried when he was killed. Considering the other family items in the group (his brothers dog tag, etc), I think this one was requested by this mother in the late 40s as the "original" would have been sent to his widow.

 

Any new script engraved medals to show?

Picked this script engraved, slot broach, Bronze Star up today. Clarence V Barham. I did an Internet search on his name and "Bronze Star" and came up with a WW2 newspaper article that was actually about his brother but mentions a Clarence V. at the bottom. The article says he was at Bougainville and Guadalcanal. Not 100% sure it was the same guy though.

 

 

 

There is only one man with this name in the WW2 Army Enlistment records. He was from Indiana. Probably your man.

Here is mine. Pvt. Drew was a replacement in the 18th IR, BRO and likely sent right to the death factory (Hurtgen Forest) where he was unfortunately killed trying to take a hill with his comrades in November 1944. He had been in service for a little over 6 months.

W, Thanks for that info. One of these days I'll learn how to research names.

Purple Heart and BSM awarded to a man killed in action on March 3rd 1945 in Germany and originally buried at Henri Chapelle. His remains were returned in 1947, and I'm sure that's when his mother received this (2nd) Purple Heart. The BSM, which is similarly engraved, came in early 1948.

Bought this small group today along with the PH box. Both are WWII issue medals named to Edward H. Mernah. I have found no Mernah on Ancestry.com or on the internet serving in WW2, but did find an Edward H. Mernah who served with the 77th Division, Lost Battalion during WW1. There was some 77th Division booklets with the medals that were in the same trunk mixed with lots of other non military stuff. I have found an article on Mernah, who was cited for bravery during the war and his info card from Ancestry.com.

This is not mine, it is currently listed on ebay, but wanted to put it here for posterity. Another Army Commendation Harold J. Berry. Ebay listing shows award card dated 4 March 1946.

Guessing this script engraved Bronze Star falls into the post war medals arena. I have not been able to find any information about the recipient.

 

This is to a guy who was MIA in 1944 when his B24 was lost in the Pacific.

 

I think he was declared KIA in late 1945 or 46.
