My uncle Frank passed away on September 23rd. He joined the Army Air Corp in August of 1942 and went on to fly P-51 Mustangs in the famed 'Checkertail Clan'. After the war, he was stationed in Germany and later was very involved in flying for the Berlin air lift. He retired after serving 30 years in the USAF. I truly enjoyed the email correspondance I had with him over the last several years regarding his time in Italy and missions he flew with the checkertail clan.
