Folks,

70 Years Ago 19 Marines paid the highest price for our freedom and the freedom other others in the raid that took place on Makin Island on 17-18 August 1942. Though only planned to last a few hours, due to weather and tidal problems the raid spending more time on target then expected in the course of the battle COL Carlson was able to get the locals to bury his fallen raiders which they did and wee eventually recovered in 1999. The youtube link below provide a moving tribute to the Marines and the natives of the Makin Island. :salute:
