I have four M3's, three are the same, guard marked, Uticas. The other one is a blade marked Kinfolks. I have one SBL and one Viner Bros. M6 scabbard, one BM Co. M8 and one 1960's M8A1 by PWH.

Not counting M6 scabbards, by maker, M8 scabbard variations. Finally, you go into the upgrade mode, all have to be mint. Be prepared to invest 30-40 years, and countless hours, and dollars. Oh how right you are my friend. I am on year 20 and I am not nearly where I would like to be with my collection. I guess that is a story we all have.

 

It is more challenging now than ever to find good, honest, examples of M3's.

Do you have any suggestions. I am surely up for some.

Richard- If you're in your 20th year, then you're doing the right thing-----"being very patient". I went from 1967, when I handled my first Utica dated, until 1980 when I actually bought my first M3, Imperial guard marked. That's how rare they were for me. I got my next four in 1988. It took me from around 1995-2011 to get all the major variations, of all the makers. I spent more cash in the last 2-3 years than I did on the rest of the collection. I've still got about 10-12 variations left, ie-finish, groove count, dual marked etc, CASE is the biggest nightmare. I'm still trying to get an SBL, and Moose M6 scabbard also. So, it's taken me 45 years to get this far. I was 18 in 1967, now I'm 62, pushing 63. There's still hope! SKIP

An "Au Lion" US-1918 dagger with a modified L.F.&C. sheath. Unfortunately the lion and the writing on the ricasso are nearly gone.

 

 

 

 

 

A first model M-1917 dagger made by L.F.&C.

 

 

 

Another US-1918, this one made by L.F.&C., again the LF&C marked sheath has been field modified! The blackening on the blade as well on the grip has been well preserved.
