I remember Jim Corey,! He was a longtime member of the Hawaii Historic Arms Association here in Honolulu. I didn't know him personally very well but I seem to recall that in WW2 he saw action in the Philippines, possibly guerilla or scout stuff, I'll have to check with some of the longtime guys at the HHAA. He was a fun guy at the parties and at our local gun show. At one time I had a folding stock Inland M-1 carbine un-altered from WW2 that belonged to him. I kick myself for selling that gun years ago when I needed some cash. What a dumb thing to do!

I also had a couple of original brand new canadian made early green berets that he sold me years ago from his days as a green beret. They were extras he never used. Again, kick myself for selling them... Hey, that might be a good new thread... Killer stuff you kick yourself for selling years ago?!

I got the set thru eBay from a lady in Honolulu. She was selling incredible VN war collectibles such as a big chunk of Don Baker's estate. I got his tiger stripes, jungle set and much more but I also missed a lot...

I would love to see those stripes .

Beautiful grouping and research to complete the story. I have two VN era groups that I was able to develop because I also found friends and relatives of the deceased servicemen. Great job.

Update -

 

This great desk plaque showed up in the mail about a month ago. The thing is, my wife decided to put it in the garage and forgot to tell me. I found it a couple days ago while cleaning out the garage. Needless to say, we had a discussion about where boxes that arrive should go. By the end, she had me convinced it was my fault I didn't see it sooner beacuse the garage was a disaster! :w00t:

 

The glider wings confuse me, I didn't see that he attended glider training in his paperwork. I did clean these badges up, there was a thick coat of laquer over all of them. I am thinking of replacing the CIB, I hate to do it but the one on there is shot.

 

I sure am glad I followed this trail and that I have had great help from LTC Corey's family and friends.

That was my grandfather on my dad's side that had only met him once or twice as he died when I was very young it's nice to read some of the research that you have come up with it's nice to see some of his stuff

Note that his certificate of graduation from the Basic Airborne Course in 1948 indicates that he was qualified as a parachutist and a gliderman. I believe it was around this time or soon after that the Army discontinued glider training. But apparently at the time he attended the course it consisted of both parachute and glider training.
