From a recently purchased lot, I wanted to share this plumb 1917 bolo/Bauer bros scabbard along with another stone mint AK Co. scabbard. A knife here, a knife there and POOF! yet another collection is born. (like I need another)

I have an ACC Co. M1917CT Bolo with a Brauer Bros scabbard... Nice pick up!!!

I have a friend who was a Marine in WWII, who I'm sorry to say is gone now.

 

But when I showed him one of those Bolos back in the day, he commented he saw them all over the place in the Pacific during WWII. He said they used them as a mini machete to cut down jungle brush, or the occasional Japanese that got a little too close for comfort.

My understanding is that in WWI they were issued to Machine Gun crews to clear fields of fire for the guns.

Bolo's were issued one to every four man squad in WWI. Two guys got an intrenching shovel, one a bolo and one a hatchet. Depending on the type og machine gun they may have had more issued. The bipods were planted into the ground and then bolo's were driven in and tied to the bipod legs to hold it still.

 

Nice Model of 1917. Now you need a Model of 1910 and a Model of 1917CT to round it out...
