Picked up this little lot from an older gentleman who told me his dad was an army engineer officer who spent his war working on the Alaska - Canada Hiway. He said this patch and the pin and necklace which were supposed to be native carved from elk or raindeer antler were his father's souveniers from Alaska.

We have an identical patch that supposedly came from a vet that worked on the highway but it came from ebay so the story may or may not be true. I emailed the underbidders and a couple said it was an unofficial jacket patch work by soldiers stationed there.

 

The edge makes it look like a souvenir tourist piece to me except there were no tourists running around there.
