October 11, 201114 yr #9 I can't comment on the boy scout connection, but the US Navy painted helmets red for Damage Control parties assigned to repair lockers.
October 11, 201114 yr #10 I like that Boy Scout liner! The Army also painted helmets red, these were worn by the Safety Officers at a firing range.
October 11, 201114 yr #11 Yep, Boy Scout emblem. The flames look like those you would get with a model car or the ones that I would have gotten at the bicycle shop. Ray
October 11, 201114 yr #12 im gonna say that its a usn helmet set from korea to nam. i have a salty damage control set and it has white circles on each side as well. couldnt figure it out, maybe a damage control medic? anywho, the only thing that throws me off are the cpt bars as when the usn painted their helmets with rank it looked like the cuff rank. oh, and thats a killer liner boy scout or not!! Philip
October 12, 201114 yr #13 GREAT Boy Scout liner! The two bars are easy....2 bars in the BSA stand for Patrol Leader rank. Just a guess but it makes sense...they look like old BSA uniform material. My first thought is that it was worn as a 'parade piece', circa mid 1960's. One of my scouts (I'm an Assistant Scoutmaster for my son's troop) would DIE for this LOL. He's a BSA collector. Very cool lid for sure.

Philip Could this at one time been a Navy DC helmet? Could be. But, it has been "modified" The BSA stuff on the liner along with the red painted liner are deefinately NOT military paint. The "Captains Bars" on the front are not anything. BSA Patrol leader bars are horizantal aren't they? To me some one has glued them on for what ever reason. Navy DC helmets are not assigned to a specific person. They belong to the locker. At best, they are marked with Position, such as Locker Leader who could be of any grade who is qualified. Your red helmet with white spots would NOT be a Corpsman helmet. Corpsmen are NOT assigned to repair lockers. For emergencies, they go to battle dressing stations. They wear theiur regular old OD/Gray/Blue/White/Red Cross marked (or not marked) helmets that they wear fro everything else. I would feel no guilt stripping this helmet down and refurbishing it.
