November 18, 200718 yr #1 SERVICE SQUADRON ENGINEERING MARINE CORPS AVIATION Need any info I can get on this patch. Who wore it? 3rd MAW? Do the dice mean something? Disney Design? Any info would be appreciated! It's attached to an OD green field jacket.
November 23, 200718 yr #3 Dan, checked in Millstein's book on USMC squadron patches and he has it as unknown. I think it might be Service Squadron 11, as the dice add up to that, but that is only a guess. There was no MAG 65, but there was a MAG 11. Hope this helps, nice patch, Mark.

June 12, 200818 yr #7 Hello, patch is listed as "unknown" in Millstein's book. However, Holmberg's book lists this as "SMS-11". I had two and sold one on Ebay. They came from the estate of a WW2-KW aircraft mechanic with the USMC. I believe SMS means Service & Maintenance Squadron...perhaps a WW2 predecesor to Headquarters & Maintenance Squadron of later years. I don't have any of my resources in front of me right now, so I'm going off the top of my head. It's a nice patch. 100% original, hand embroidered in Australia during WW2. If you decide to part with it, let me know. Any name on the jacket? I wonder if they somehow came from the same estate?? I purchased my patches along with two other USMC squadron patches from the Korean War nearly 8 years ago. Again, I'd have to go back to my records to find the name of the mechanic and exact date of purchase. My guess is that this was an unapproved patch (note the bird's guesture) as I have been unable to find any other records. It's one of the reasons I enjoy collecting USN and USMC unknown patches. The thrill is in the detective work. Yours is only the 4th one I've ever seen. My two and the one pictured in the Millstein book are the others. Hope this helps. Jeffro
June 20, 200818 yr Author #8 SMS-11 certainly makes sense. Thanks very much guys! Any idea on value, not that it's going anywhere. Thanks again!
April 8, 200917 yr Author #11 Just curious again...Anyone have any ideas as to what this patch would be worth?
April 8, 200917 yr #12 I would agree with Teamski, 80-100, its hard to tell, if it was on ebay and someone really wanted it, it could go for more, but just to say without testing the market, thats a good range. Could be less.... Mark
