September 18, 201114 yr #1 My Dad and I went out to see the Civil War Naval Museum during my recent Florida trip. It was a very impressive museum, with the remains of two CW ships. They re-created a paddlewheeler outdoors of the museum building, so it's impossible to miss if you're driving past it! Sadly they have a no flash photography rule inside and the museum is extremely dark, so i couldn't get a lot of good photos. Here's some stuff you all might like:US Navy cap and fuze boxes:Frock coat from Catesby Jones, commander of the CSS Virginia (Merrimac) on the day of its historical battle with the USS Monitor!Recreated ironclad, CSS Albemarle:Inside the gun compartment:Some of the many naval gun tubes in the museum and on the grounds:One on a metal carriage which is fired on special events, the largest Civil War gun that is fired today! And the biggest darned CSA flag I've ever seen, it's 18X24 feet! I can't find my notes right now where it was used, though...
