October 29, 201114 yr #26 I think your sword idea is very good as well as having it engraved or otherwise made for presentation or ceremonial use. He may never wear it but if he were to do so he would have something very unique and personal that will be a constant reminder of the support you are providing him now and into the future. This may sound a little silly but to me a sword is a somewhat elegant device which is still a deadly weapon while a knife makes me mindful of something purely raw. I don't mean to diminish any warrior ethos, simply to give my opinion of a distinction.

I doubt these swords will hold up to much use, or that a warrior would select one to use in battle. They're purely ceremonial in nature and construction.
October 30, 201114 yr #29 Concerning the USAF Sword, as an enlisted member; I would never have even seen the USAF sword. However, when I departed my last unit... the guys got together and purchased one and presented it to me as a keepsake. I had it incorporated into my shadowbox upon retirement. See below: Greg

October 31, 201114 yr #31 I am surprised at myself for not having a well marked example of an eagle pommel 1902 presentation grade to share (even though I know I have some files somewhere). There is a thread of 1902s in ton this board wwith an eagle version. http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/ind...?showtopic=4168 An eagle head pommel 1902 would be the bird's word in a sense of application for an Air Force officer. Other countries use eagles. Some though are a bit albatross like the British, or condor like the Chilean. Cheers GC
