June 29, 201115 yr #26 Thanks for the additional photos Kat. Sure looks like ivory from here! The color variations illustrated, in post # 20, of those "elongated 'beads' " make them all-the-more appear as jade, too. Would like to know (or even be able to guess at) what the darker 'bead' is in between. That red stone sandwiched in the guard is also an interesting 'mystery' specimen. Earlier photos led me to believe that the pommel and fore-grip fittings were made from aluminum, but I'm beginning to wonder if they might be something more like nickel-silver. One way to tell is to rub the metal with a clean white cotton cloth; aluminum (even polished) should produce a gray residue, which is the color of it's protective oxidation. Nickel-silver would not produce much, if any, residue. Those lathe cuts (for grip retention/decorative) in the fittings also clear a lot up. Couldn't tell prior, if it was just sloppy machine work, which didn't make a bit of sense with the quality otherwise apparent. As there are a lot of very resourceful researchers who participate here, you might consider posting the Veteran's name for some assistance, in such. I believe that some may even be able to take the "last four" (laundry mark) and come up with info to help narrow things down. Regards, Don.
