Message Parachute

Hi,

Some one is offering me a small parachute that his grandfather said was used to parachute messages onto ships. I have never heard anything of this sort and wondered if anyone here has. He will be sending me pictures soon so when I get them I will post them here. Also, what kind of price would go on a item like this? think.gif Thanks.

I doubt seriously if a parachute was used to drop messages to a ship because the wind would cause the parachute to drift and movement of the ship would make it almost impossible for it to hit the ship. I have seen capsules or weighted bags with streamers attached used to drop messages. I bet when you see it it will be a flair parachute or maybe a pilot-chute.

Thats what I was thinking as well, it would be bloody hard to catch from a ship. Well he sent me two pictures of it, kind of looks like a flare parachute.

I agree with the flare parachute theory
