I am pretty sure the patch you have as VC12. Is VAW12. The Bats are usually electronic warfare squadrons. My apologies. They were VC12 until 1956...

Yes, it is the earlier designation from what I understand. Even the cruise book "Port to Port" shows the designation "VC 12"
