Found this neat little pistol at my LGS this morning. Pistol brought home by PFC Herbert Kaplan. I haven't seen too many Walther Model 5's brought home as war trophies. Has a nice little holster and spare magazine. Dealer stated he found the capture papers folded up inside the holster.Too bad he has a common name and no army serial number listed so it will be impossible to research him. I found another bring-back that I will post another day. -

What an awesome grouping! I know you are ecstatic to be able to pick that grouping up. Congrats! P.S.> My dad was born in Cleveland was a Cleveland Heights Police Officer and my grandfather retired from the Cleveland Police Dept. after 25 years. I went with my dad on a trip to Cleveland and he showed me around all the areas he was familiar with. It was a wonderful trip. -

When it comes to these training units, it’s usually a MTT- Mobile Training Teams. Anywhere from 2 -15 solders. That’s why these patches are always harder to find. -

I really don’t know what to think about it. It could be a in country set but not sure and it’s not named. This is the second one that I’ve seen like this the first was a post Vietnam war. Everything about this one is real salty. It supposedly came out of a house cleanup in North Alabama. If for those that may ask, I will not take the cover off. the cover is dated 1969. -

Hey all! Earlier today I received a message from the daughter of Mr. Mahlig off Facebook stating she was interested in selling her father’s military items. I drove down a few hours later and picked up his entire grouping! As a Clevelander I could not be more happy to get another local soldiers grouping to display at local events. It seems he served into the 50s as well. His daughter stated he flew over Germany but that was all she knew. One thing that stumps me is the Air Force patch with the 1 and the Cross of Lorraine, I’ve never seen it before. My favorite part of the group has to be his baseball uniform. The daughter said he always loved the number 13, and the uniform was found in the bottom of his trunk. I believe the “Colonels” were probably a base team, but I will have to look further into it. Research is still ongoing and if anyone can find information on Mr. Mahlig that would be great! I would love to be able to tell his full story to the community around Cleveland. Thanks all!
