I have two unknown DUI Crests I asked if anyone can identify for me. Most likely both are Coastal Arty. I suspect that unit crest number two is a Coast Arty Command used for all elements of the interior US, but am not entirely sure. Please let me know if the pictures do not make the posting and I'll resubmit. Both crests are enameled, no hall mark, brass/gold finish, screw backs which make me think they are of 1920-1938 era. Thank you in advance, Raypost-115509-0-59387300-1393598808.jpgpost-115509-0-89254800-1393598809.jpg

The second crest, I just found out, is the Coastal Artillery Corps First Field Army. A turn of the Century crest with the other First Field Army crests that were issued after the Spanish-American War. --Ray

17th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron (Mechanized). This DI was ONLY worn from May 1946 to January 1947 while the unit was on occupation duty in Germany. All original pieces were typical German made pin back with round disc attaching the pin to the DI. The Unit was attached to the 15th Cavalry Regiment until May 1946 (then the 15th Cav. Regiment was re-designated the 15th Constabulary Regiment). On July 1, 1946 the 17th Cavalry was no longer attached to the 15th Constabulary Regiment and became a separate cavalry squadron in the 3rd Army performing security for the 3rd Army in the Heidelberg area until it was deactivated in January 1947. The DI was later re-designated for the 501st Reconnaissance Bn at Ft. Sill OK but this unit only existed on paper from about September 1948 to January 1949. All clutch back pieces, including German made ones were never worn on uniforms, they were made for other purposes.

Two of my most prized crests, a left and right pair from the 422nd Infantry Regiment, 106th Infantry Division made by Uris. You just don't see these together from WW II. The are concaved and must have been difficult pinning to the uniform through that thick wool or gabardine. One of the crests, worn on the Garrison Cap would undoubtedly pucker a bit unless it rounded with the cap on a soldier's forehead. Just thought that I'd share them with you.post-115509-0-33385000-1408286357.jpgpost-115509-0-13913800-1408286366.jpg
