patches Posted May 5, 2022 Share #326 Posted May 5, 2022 What better reference then to show DUI actually being worn! This that cool looking 52nd Coast Artillery. This GI is Private Leon J. Seitz, of the Regiment in April 1943, 2nd Coast Artillery District home on leave in Michigan from Fort Hancock New York, maybe Seitz knows it, or doesn't know it, that his Regiment is going to be broken up into Battalions with all of them being redesignated. It takes place 1 May 1943.

tredhed2 Posted June 3, 2022 Share #330 Posted June 3, 2022 Due to the metals shortage in WW 2, many cloth DIs were created. Here are some infantry regt cloth DIs: 307th Inf Regt; 413th Inf Regt )direct ember into o/s cap); 176th Inf Regt

Great additions, I have a few other nice cloth examples for units not shown yet and I will add those once I have them photographed but in the meantime here is an uncut example of a 176th inf reg DUI that my great uncle kept in his wallet, inside is a picture of him in uniform wearing other examples of the insignia. Confusingly he would be transferred from the 176th to the 175th and was killed by a sniper at Brest. If you look closely you can spot his brother with a 343rd dui on his cap. Ray42 Posted June 6, 2022 Share #334 Posted June 6, 2022 Here are a few of my cloth examples. Force some theater made CBI and KMAG examples. Next an example from the 347th infantry regiment. And finally an interesting cloth and metal DUI pair for the Colorado Military Institute. These came out of an unfortunately unarmed WW2 group so I believe they are from that timeframe. Yeager-BK Posted June 23, 2022 Share #335 Posted June 23, 2022 Tank Destroyer units have some of the coolest DUIs in WW2. Anyone have insight on why they feature dinosaurs, prehistoric mammals, and dragons so frequently? Some of my favorite WW2 Tank Destroyer Units: 631 TD 819 TD 820 TD
tredhed2 Posted June 23, 2022 Share #336 Posted June 23, 2022 Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. but your 819th TD Bn is not only a fantasy piece made for collectors, it was never worn in WW 2. The design was authorized, not approved for nor never made for the 819th TD Bn 20 Oct 42. The sample I provided was redes for the 819th Tank Bn 30 Oct 52 and approved 23 Apr 53. It specifically called for a silver (argent) mastodon. It's a CB by NSM. Was worn only by the 819th Tank Bn.

My guess is the the other is for the 1st Brigade, 24th Infantry Division. It looks foreign-made (Japan, Germany?).

patches Posted July 13, 2022 Share #348 Posted July 13, 2022 The Chapel located in the 23rd Infantry's area at Ft Benning Georgia 1961, note the unit was still using the original crest, without the WE SERVE scroll that would be adopted in an amendment in July 1969. patches Posted August 1, 2022 Share #350 Posted August 1, 2022 A early Occupation period 745th Tank Battalion DUI, German made by Lauer of Nurnburg, an unauthorized unit approved type., no shot of the rear as it is on a uniform, uniform sold a ways back. the 745th Tk Bn was attached to the 1st Infantry Division from D-Day to VE Day, though not sure where the CIB comes in, perhaps a store add on years and years ago.
