Nice uniform photo, Ricardo. that's a lot of ribbons for a Private......unless, perhaps, he got into a bit of trouble during occupation duty. ermm.gif

No, the soldier photographed here didn't get into trouble. He was discharged from the army after returning home atthe end of World War II. He was in love with an English woman and wanted to marry her, but found out that it was going to be difficult to get her brought into the country without going through a lot of red tape. He then found out that congress had given immigration priority to dependants of US military personnel and those who were immigrating in order to marry a serviceman. As the veteran missed his English girlfriend, he decided to reenlist. Since he had not stayed on active duty after the war, all of the NCO slots were full and he had to re-up as a Private. Since he was a two jump veteran and a former NCO, he was allowed to re-up at the lofty rank of Private First Class.

Would you believe he is missing a two palce ribbon bar in the photo? He's not wearing his Soldier's medal or Bronze Star w/ V and two olc's! on the other hand, the French and Belgian Croix de Guerre ribbons on his rack are actually unit awards that he is incorrectly wearing in place of the French and Belgian fourrageres to the CdG's.

After his second hitch, he went to the Kansas National Guard and went to college on the GI Bill.
