armillary_journey Posted January 18, 2011 Share #1 Posted January 18, 2011 Here are some Air Force stripes I thought were Master Sgt. How old are these stripes, that is an E8 stripe? I know that is an Army Msgt. however I apparently don't know Air Force at all. The ribbons, are they Air Force? They were all sold to me together. Any age on the ribbons? Thanks for any help. cco23i Posted January 18, 2011 Share #3 Posted January 18, 2011 Those are E-7 Msgt. stripes. They are probably from the 80's judging from the back, and the shoulder loop style. Scott
Lee Ragan Posted January 18, 2011 Share #4 Posted January 18, 2011 This style Master Sgt. was replaced in about 1994 with the current type. (5 down and one chevron above.)
Bluehawk Posted January 19, 2011 Share #5 Posted January 19, 2011 Re: ribbons - you have Air Force Achievement (post 1980), USAFGCM (post 1963) and USAF Training (post 1974), Longevity Service Award (post 1957) etc. - so, definitely a USAF set after 1980; although the Training ribbon is authorized for: Criteria It is awarded to U.S. Air Force service members on completion of initial accession training after Aug. 14, 1974. In December 1986, the criteria expanded and authorized the ribbon to anyone who was on active duty regardless of when they completed initial accession training. BTW, "anyone" includes officers. Not many of us are real thrilled with that ribbon. The longevity ribbon with 4 OLCs represents 20 full years of service. So, the set must date from the 1980-00s I would guess.
