Some new Naval finds

The USS Long Beach UIM is a commercially made one. These were made in the early 1980s just after the jumper style uniform was resurected. Commands went out and had UIMs made before the Navy could get them made up and sent out. Unfortunately, many commands had the hull number incorrectly added to the patch. Some commands even had UIMs made that were blue lettering on white.

When we arrived at our homeport for the first time (newly commissioned), we breasted outboard of CGN-9 at pier 9, NASNI. I remember that everyone had the UIM with the hull number. I always thought that it looked nice.

The only ones I remember off the top of my head were Long Beach and Tarawa (LHA-1).

There are 3 older DD's that have hull numbers on their UIM's They came out in late 1950's, cut edged tabs.

These are very hard to find. Have scanned in the 2 I have in my collection

USS Hugh Purvis DD-709

USS Samuel B Roberts DD-825

USS Ozbourn DD-846
