This is very cool. The patch incorporates the rate symbol of the two types in the division - Operations Specialist and Electronic Warfare Specialist.

OI (Operations Intelligence) division is located in CIC of the ship.

Fairly modern patch.

Thanks 67Rally  . Nice to get some more info about that. I like the detail of the patch along with the other two. I really like the detail. Especially the ships. Robert

FYI...

Operations Specialist (OS)

Electronic Warfare Technician (EW):

Note: This rate was merged with the Cryptologic Technicians (CTT) in 2003.

Both rates were the result of the splitting out of the original Radarman (RD) rate in 1972. The operators became the OS and the techs were transitioned to EW (one of the EW chiefs I worked with was an RD that was transitioned). RDs were split out of the Radioman (RM) rate (which is why the original RD rate very closely resembles the RM). The RM rate is now known as the Information System Technician (IT) and still utilizes the same symbol.

.

The USS Long Beach UIM is a commercially made one. These were made in the early 1980s just after the jumper style uniform was resurected. Commands went out and had UIMs made before the Navy could get them made up and sent out. Unfortunately, many commands had the hull number incorrectly added to the patch. Some commands even had UIMs made that were blue lettering on white.
