05B4S Posted January 3, 2011 Share #9 Posted January 3, 2011 Same source than mine but i didnt see that one. Thanks for correction Mikko The rosters you were looking at are for PCS teams from 5th Grp. Anderson's team was TDY to the RVN from the 1st SFG, Okinawa. Note the USSF Vietnam (Provisional) flash (unauthorized) on the beret in SatCong69's photo. The beret looks a bit too "virgin" to me. 05B4S Posted January 3, 2011 Share #12 Posted January 3, 2011 this is the beret........ Luca The pic is rather small, but it looks to be a Fleur de Lis from 1963(??). Nothing wrong with that, but by it's shape (lack there of) in the photo with the shirt it appears to have seen little to no wear. That doesn't mean it's not period. SFMike Posted March 10, 2016 Share #17 Posted March 10, 2016 All 5th Group officers were required to wear ARVN rank insignia just as all of us were required to wear the LLDD patch on our pocket. There were guys who had extra or second pieces of clothing or headgear that never got worn or were only used in the rear. Berets worn every day in the field or camp got grungy. The shape is sure not going to stay the same after 50 years of storage Officers were expected to maintain the usual STRAC Airborne uniform standards when not on actual operations. Enlisted as well. The spitshine, starch and whitewalls are part of being in such a unit and are a giant pain in the rear.
