not a bad run so far. I'd display mine when I get home, but it's a 4 bar rack with a star. seems the CAR just keeps getting denied, oddly enough. I thought firefights counted

Here's a set I have attributed to a USMC Sgt. Maj. for service in Haiti, WW1, and China in the 30s. Also the USMC expeditionary and good conduct. Hand sewn on the backside.

All collectors should note that the individual who initially started this post has been banned and his posts are now being reviewed for authenticity.

Our main interest at USMF is making sure collectors are aware and can learn about period pieces. And, having non-original pieces as guides does a disservice to all. The administration encourages members having detailed information regarding the item being a fake, reproduction, and/or put together to come forward and post it here or in other threads.

Here is his uniform, from earlier in his career, which is why it has the Gunnery Sgt chevrons. But, all attributed to the same guy so I display them together.

Yes I believe that underneath the ribbon, there are very thin strips of something, don't know if it's wood. Can't say as I've ever had them apart. :D

Ribbon bar set to Chaplain John K. Borneman ( Brig Gen RET ) . He was the Chaplain of the 60th Coast Artillery on Corregidor and was captured and taken POW when the Philippines fell. He was liberated by the 6th Army Rangers at Cabanatuan. He was one of the most highly decorated Chaplains during WWII.

The insignia is his as well. The crosses are pinback sterling .

This is the ribbon bar attached to double Medal of Honor recipient Major General Smedley Butler.

When I viewed these in person while inspecting the uniform at a militaria show, they were much more impressive. With the coating they have, they just don't photograph well (glare, lighting, etc). They are unique in every sense of the word and really nice.

post 39 is very nice, and 22 is very interesting, to see a Marine using the EGA device on his ribbon. I wonder if he was formerly a Corpsman?

The uniform in post 22 is that of a WWII Navy "Doc" PhM2cl assigned to the USMC FMF. Corpsman are authorized to wear the USMC uniform with Navy rates, if they conform to the grooming standards of the Corps. They can also choose to wear their Naval uniforms. The EGA device on the APT ribbon was and is authorized for USN personnel who qualified for the award while serving with the Corps and may be seen on all campaign ribbons in Marines served. In essence while with the Corps they are Marines. Semper Fi!......Bob

"I have only two men out of my company and 20 out of some other company. We need support, but it is almost suicide to try to get it here as we are swept by machine gun fire and constant barrage is on us. I have no one on my left and only a few on my right. I will hold." This is one of my favorites for it's oddity. This vet was a CPO/ air gunner in combat in WWII, then served as an enlisted pilot (NAP). He was later commisioned and flew transports until he retired in the late '60's. One of his Air Medal's was a peacetime award from 1958. The AF Commendation and USAF unit award were for service with MAC, which his squadron was attached during Vietnam. A pretty interesting career. Enjoy, Mark.

Mark,

That is one bizarre rack of ribbons. If I encountered them at a show or in an antique mall, I would definitely pass. Odd to see a naval officer and pilot with USN enlisted and USAF ribbons too! The guy was also in Antarctica!
