irish Posted December 31, 2010 #1 Posted December 31, 2010 Can anyone tell me the approximate era of these AF patches. the lower competition patches are obviously dated to the late 70's. How about the rest. I think they are mostly fighter related. these were part of a large accumulation I recently acquired. I can ID some but AF patch era's always throw me. thanks.
Sabrejet Posted December 31, 2010 #2 Posted December 31, 2010 Teamski will nail it when he eyeballs them but I'd say 70s > 80s. Sabrejet
irish Posted December 31, 2010 Author #3 Posted December 31, 2010 Here is some more from same accumulation.
Sabrejet Posted December 31, 2010 #4 Posted December 31, 2010 A number of your patches have a British connection, ie USAF Wings/Squadrons which were based here during the Cold War years. Sabrejet
irish Posted December 31, 2010 Author #5 Posted December 31, 2010 Thanks SabreJet. Here are 3 varieties of the 95th FIS from this group, kind of interesting. You had mentioned cold war era, so 50's to 80's?
doyler Posted December 31, 2010 #6 Posted December 31, 2010 I agree with Ian. I would say being flat edge they are older patches. Nice group. RD
irish Posted December 31, 2010 Author #8 Posted December 31, 2010 Thanks fellas, I will keep posting them. It was a bit of a hodge podge but mainly AF related, some army and misc. These came from an old flea marketer, estate saler, garage sale guy. A real scrounger with a great eye.
irish Posted January 1, 2011 Author #9 Posted January 1, 2011 More. The Ft Richardson Patch may not be military.
Patchcollector Posted January 1, 2011 #10 Posted January 1, 2011 Whoever first gathered these had a good eye, there are some nice patches here, some perhaps from the 1950's! Here's a tip:If the patch has a "Tactical" in it,such as The 353rd TFS(Tactical Fighter Squadron),then it's an older patch, as the USAF dropped the "Tactical" designation in the 80's,or early 90's. BTW,you have some Army aviation in there too, love the 350th Bulldogs!
irish Posted January 2, 2011 Author #11 Posted January 2, 2011 Thanks Patchcollector. I will remember the tip on Tactical references. John

BTW,you have some Army aviation in there too, love the 350th Bulldogs! the change happened on 1992 when the Air Force integrated most of the Strategic Air Command and the Tactical Air Command into the Air Combat Command, the Military Airlift Command changed to the Air Mobility Command and Air Force Logistics Command and Air Force Systems Command combined into the Air Force Material Command. There was a lot of changes when the Cold War ended in the USAF. Nice patches Mark
