55rab Posted September 5, 2007 Share #1 Posted September 5, 2007 LST 325, a sailing museum, is the only ex-Navy vessel that travels and is in working order. LST 325 is one of two from WWII in the U.S. to be preserved. It’s main deck still houses original anti-aircraft weapons. I recently visited the ship while it was berthed on the Illinois river in Peoria. You can view more information and see more photos by clicking the link to http://www.germanhelmetdepot.com/html/lst_325.html Enjoy the show ! ! JKrebs21 Posted September 12, 2007 Share #4 Posted September 12, 2007 Great ship and crew. I have been on here twice now, once when she made it to Jeffersonville Indiana while still homeported out of Alabama and once when in Covington Ky during the Tallstacks celebration in cincinatti last year. She is now homeported out of Evansville Indiana where many of the type were made during WW2. Check out their site at lstmemorial.com There are alot of events going on with group including MVPA meeting next year and others. Their LCVP's fromt eh ship were also used in filming for 'flags of our fathers'. Depending on how you want to widen your parameters, two Liberty ships are still operated, the Jeremiah O'brian and the John W. Brown. Technically they are the Merchant Marine in WW2. The other LST you speak of is LST 393 in Michigan.
